The Illusive Man was built up as a really intriguing character in Mass Effect 2 (ME2).
Bioware has, in many ways, broken from its usual tradition of quality and produced a shoddy ending, not just an 'unhappy' one that is creatively sound. More companies need to act like Blizzard and only release things when they know it’s ready.Years ago, Bioware's Mass Effect series set out to be the Star Wars or Star Trek of video games by creating a galaxy teeming with different species, rich with history, conflict, and politics. The whole thing reeked of EA rushing the project to avoid another delay. Don’t forget that whole day one DLC being finished after the game was done but magically was still on the disk if you change just one line of code. Seeing that ending scene with the Normandy wasn’t really closure. Also, they promised to provide closure, resolution, and explanations but they really didn’t do a good job at it. In interviews leading up to the game and such, they promised an ending that changed based on your decisions. You can be full Renegade and just randomly decide to do Paragon. While it did play some roles before the ending, you could have almost played any way you wanted to and gotten the same three endings which YOU get to pick anyways. What the problem really is is two things.įirst, ME as a series emphasized choices and their repercussions. I’ve been disappointed by stuff like that before and not really cared. The problem isn’t just that the ending sucked.
